-You know this line^. Supposedly all the hustlers, celebrities and uber-successful don't really sleep that much…they're too busy working. Well, I work really hard, b/c I want to be really successful so I decided that if I cut my sleep down from 8 hours a night, maybe I could squeeze a little more writing in. So yesterday, I worked from 9am-8pm & then worked on my writing, blog & twittered until about 3am, did some MORE writing until 4am… only to get BACK up @ 7am, grab a grande Starbucks vanilla caffe latte (side of banana nut bread)and work in my office until 8pm. Whew! Needless to say, I'm EXHAUSTED. Just looking @ this picture makes me want to crawl under my covers & take a 1st class flight to dreamland.

I mean in college I would work hours like this with my eyes closed. But now I'm 24 & although my mind doesn't want to shut down my ENTIRE body hurts right now. I don't know if it's the strain from my dayjob(I work in insurance) or what. I do yoga 2-3 times a week. I eat healthy square meals & drink water. I honestly just feel that if I was writing all the time, I would WANT to sleep less & work more...and maybe I wouldn't feel tired. (I mean, I LOVED college & it seemed like I never slept) but, I don't want to kill myself, post-grad, from sleep deprivation while trying to get to the top of my writing game. It seems that there just aren't enough hours in the day to do it all, so I was wondering are the people chilling at the top (the famous, the wealthy, the content) sleeping less? And is that ultimately why they become more successful? IDK…what do you think? J
P.S…some of the greats…Jay Leno, Madonna, Michelangelo, Martha Stewart, Thomas Edison, Da Vinci…even Bill Clinton only sleep/slept on average about 4 hrs a night(hmmm..Bill wasn't sleeping, but he was getting aHEAD on a whole new level, lmao). Anyhoo, a lot of these famous people suffered from insomnia & although researchers say that 6-8hrs is a healthy night's rest, I don't wanna wake up and have had my life pass me by. I'm torn on what to do. What do you say…to sleep or not to sleep?

I think you need to find some middle ground. I'm 35 and I can tell you, you're ability to function on less sleep only gets worse.
If you usually get 8 and 3 clearly makes you ill, try 6. Then, on the weekend, put aside more time for writing and sleep in a little.
Just play around with it.
That's a good idea..i'm gonna try it & let you know how it goes Lori! :) Dang & it only gets worse w. age?!...ugh *sadly slits wrist*
lol..thx again for ur thoughts!
I definitely have to agree with Lori. Don't overdue it; just take it a little at a time. Remember, you have to crawl before you walk. So first start by putting more work in on the weekends and more sleep during the weekday. I know you're eager to get things done but you also have to be in the right state of mind and our sleep patterns are important to our rejuvenation! Besides, we don't need you falling alseep @ the J-O-B! That's where the $$ is made until we can get the hell away from 9-5's! lol
Ty xoxo
@ ty: ur right, I was SO tired yesterday my head nearly fell in my coffee cup, lol. & then I had to catch up w. TEN hrs of sleep last nite just to feel like myself again! so i'm definitely gonna use the middle ground of 6hrs and like u said grinding harder on weekends, not pushing it so hard on weeknights after work...I just get so exxxcited after work! i'm even going to try to get a nap in on my lunch break or something..i heard a lot of the 4hr sleepers regularly took naps. lol
you are a mess for that last paragraph! but on a serious note, all of the "celebrities" you spoke of are all in a different market than you. writers need a clear mind and thought process. sleep for a day then write for a day. you do not want to write with a filtered or altered mind do you?!
@THS: lol@ my last pgh..Bill was getting AHEAD "I did not have sexual relations w. that woman", while he had lying bags under his eyes he said that to the whole world! Bill u OBVIOUSLY weren't sleeping so WHAT WERE YOU DOING? HMMM *files nails*
and ya knw I never thought about how all I mentioned were painters, inventors, presidents...things of that nature(sidenote: I wonder how much sleep Barack gets...)as writers we do need to have a clear mind, b/c fatigue does bring writer's block & I HATE the WB monster, ugh. no want of filtered minds here...thx for commenting luv!
I agree. I'm turning 31 and I find that sleeplessness and I are becoming great bedfellows.
I slept more when I was younger.
@Lakisha, well i wanted some more sleeplessness after getting just 3hrs of sleep wed.nite but my body was like 'no ma'am!...you,pillow, dream, NOW!' ahahahaa. when I was younger i'd go to bed @ 3am wake up for an 8am class & have so much energy & i didn't even do yoga in college....thnx for ur thoughts! :)
My Darling Jewell,
Go to sleep!!! I am on of those people that feel you need 8 hours of sleep. Please believe it is not about sleep but how hard you are willing to work for it. But if you decide to sleep less hit me up. I got some eye cream that is the bomb for those bags. LOL!
@NS: I'm definitely learning on how to make myself "GO TO BED!"<--in katherine jackson's voice when she tells that to joseph..i knw u've seen the movie...that part is always SO funny to me! haha! And you are right it's not about the lack of losing sleep or anything else, but I should remain steadfast on my drive to work for more, thus getting more! Thanks for having me keep that in mind. and yes if I slip up past my middle ground of 6-7 hrs and shoot for a 3pointer again...I will call u for some eye cream! LOL! Maybe I should call Halle Berry & see what her sleep schedule is?!?! LOL!
LOL! OK I will remember that. Girl Halle is getting her sleep, please believe that. I am not fooled. Goodnight!
